MARCH FISHING ON PYRAMID LAKE

The fishing is great right now on Pyramid Lake! We recently had the pleasure of guiding five gentlemen out from Southern Utah. The guys were experienced Anglers and a blast to fish with. They were very dedicated and had 181 fish to the net during their 3 day trip! Including 82 on the third day with a 10+ pounder in there!

Indicator and streamer fishing are both doing well, so get out there and let’s see how many fish you can land! We’d love to see your pictures and please follow us on Instagram and Facebook!

FISHING IS GOOD! THE BREAK DID US WELL…..

After being closed for just over 5 weeks Pyramid Lake is back open and the fishing is GOOD! Lots of 10+ lb. fish are being landed. Yesterday we landed 25 fish between the 2 of us and had at least 3 doubles on– no big boys but great numbers. Double We fished the afternoon from 1pm to 5:45pm at one of the open beaches. Right now North Nets to Shot Dog are the only areas open to fishing. Indicator and streamer fishing are both producing– we had a few inches of snow last night, the lake is blown out on some beaches, but the wind looks right for good fishing! The pre-spawn is starting soon so give us a call to book your guided trip on Pyramid Lake, and let’s get you that 20 pounder! 435-901-1921Red

RE-OPENING NORTH NETS TO SHOT DOG SATURDAY FEB. 18TH

The Tribe has issued a press release stating that beaches from North Nets to Shot Dog will be open for recreational use starting Saturday February 18th, 2017. Channel 2 News reports the following article:

“Pyramid Lake Opens to Limited Recreational Use

Posted: Feb 17, 2017 2:06 PM MSTUpdated: Feb 17, 2017

Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe says they are opening Pyramid Lake to limited recreational use and that public safety due to flood recovery is still a concern.

From Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe:

Nixon, NV:  After over two months of recovery from extensive flood damage, the Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe has opened some areas of Pyramid Lake to the public for recreational activities including fishing, boating, camping, and day use.  The Tribe has designated the beaches from North Nets to Shot Dog as open to the public, effective Saturday, February 18, 2017.

Tribal Chairman, Vinton Hawley, stated “These particular beaches are accessible by the public, however, caution should be taken when using any of the beach access roads due to damage caused by flooding and on-going runoff.”  Chairman Hawley also urges the public to be aware that that the floods and fluctuating water levels and erosion have resulted in new drop-off areas, unstable sand walls, and debris in the beach areas.

The Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe has dedicated over $1 million dollars of its own funds to make the necessary repairs to access roads and the boat ramps at Pelican Point so that Pyramid Lake could be re-opened to the public.  The Tribe is continuing its recovery efforts to make more permanent improvements and repairs on the boat docks and several beach access roads.

Chairman Hawley urges the public to stay within the limited beach access areas, and reminds them that all tribal regulations will be strictly enforced.  He also requests that the public respect the areas subject to road closure.  Closed roads will be clearly marked.  The depth at the end of the boat docks at Pelican Point is about 3 feet, so boaters will launch at their own risk. The water may not be deep enough to accommodate larger boats.  For all public users of Pyramid Lake are asked to respect the Tribes regulations for the safety of all.  Limited beach access is effective until further notice.”

SUTCLIFFE COMMUNITY RECOVERING FROM FLOOD, LAKE IS CLOSED

Last week’s floods left the Sutcliffe community of Pyramid Lake with no running water for 7 days, and no sewer for 5 days; the power was also out at times. The main water source for the area broke in several areas and crews had limited access due to continued wet weather. Workers are now able to provide a temporary fix and residents do have running water- boil order is in effect and is not recommended to bathe, or clean clothes in the water until after at least Weds. Roads on both South and North ends of the lake are expected to take 4-6 weeks to repair. The lake is still closed to all fishing and boating activities- we are all hoping for an update from the Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe as soon as conditions are stable enough to reopen the lake. Follow us on Facebook for more updates.

FLOODING AT PYRAMID LAKE/RENO-SPARKS

Major flooding in the area has caused many road closures and water outages for residents in Sutcliffe on Pyramid Lake Nevada. Warrior Point is washed out where the pavement ends. WARRIOR

Nine mile is also washed out.NINE MILE

The highway from Wino to Popcorn is washed out/collapsed in three locations.CROSBY LODGE

Local Rangers report that surrounding roads will be blocked with cement barricades this afternoon. South nets literally has a river flowing into it- overflow from a canyon creek.SOUTH NETS

We have heard reports that it’s possible to get to/from town.

Fishing on the lake could be good for those that have access to it! Some areas of the lake are blown out from nearby creeks and the Truckee river overflow. Good luck, and stay safe anglers! Follow us on Instagram and Facebook for more up to date news of Pyramid Lake, NV. @pyramidlakeguides

NICE LAHONTAN CUTTHROAT

Guide Nick Jackson had the day off this Saturday, so what other thing to do but go fishing! He met up with some fellow anglers and headed out to one of their favorite beaches on Pyramid Lake. Between the group there were over a dozen fish landed, with this nice Summit Lake strain weighing in around 8 lbs. caught on a tui chub pattern by Nick Jackson of Pyramid Lake Guides.

LATE IN THE SEASON THE FISHING IS STILL GOOD……

Local Tawni Capurro landed this beautiful chrome Pilot Peak last week- late in May on Pyramid Lake, Nevada. The warmer temps will drive the cutties into deeper water but have still been around as of yet. The fishing season ends June 30 so get out to the shore while you still can!

MARCH 24-25 2016- PYRAMID LAKE FISHING REPORT

Les and Ben from Ogden, UT landed around 50 fish during their two guided days on Pyramid Lake, NV. The first day started off with a slow morning but ended up as a killer afternoon- Les landed this awesome 14 pounder just after lunch- it was his first fish on Pyramid.

We had a consistent bite the following day with a dozen fish each. Unlike the day before, we got ours on the strip with woolyworms and popcorn beetles (the day prior indicator fishing with midges was the preferred technique). It was a pleasure guiding this two from our home state of Utah- we hope to see them again out at the Mid!

March Madness on Pyramid Lake, NV

The guys from Iowa landed near 30 fish this past Monday on Pyramid Lake. Some nice, colorful Pyramid Lake strains (aka Summit Lake strain), and a beautiful Pilot Peak were among the many fish landed. Nice job guys- toughing out the wind and cold! March is a GREAT time to fish Pyramid for the Lahontan Cutthroat- there are several reports of pod sightings right along the shoreline. Get out there!
