NOVEMBER FISHING 2017

The fishing is pretty good in terms of larger size cutties being landed in the 4-8lb. range, just not seeing huge numbers quantity wise. Beach access is okay but the North and South ends are still closed. The shelves have changed so anglers are looking for access to deeper water. The morning bite has been productive. Big storm with lots of wind and rain today, let’s hope that means the fishing is HOT! 🌊

WINTER IS HERE

It’s October 1, 2017 and that means the Pyramid Lake fishing season is now open! The water temps are cooling off around 65 degrees, and the lake is turning over with moss and algae. Once that green clears out the shore fishing should be phenomenal! The bait balls are dissipating but can still be found. The shores are crowded with anglers anxious to get out on the alkaline lake.

Be sure to read Tribal regulations before heading out to chase those massive Lahontan cutties. Be respectful, crimp your barbs, park at least 100 feet from shore, use only artificial flies and lures, know your keep limits, clean up after yourselves, and stay warm!

SEASON OPENER OCT. 1, 2017

That time will soon be upon us to search for the elusive 20 pound Lahontan Cutthroat Trout! We’re looking forward to landing these massive cutties on the alkaline lake just north of Reno once again. Our premium custom made ladders are good to go, and the flies are being tied! We’re stocking up on large zebra midge patterns, balanced leeches, woolly buggers, boobies, and popcorn beetles. We were able to land 6 trout over 10 pounds in just 4 weeks last season before the lake closed due to road damage from flooding, and we expect this year to be just as epic. Once the lake re-opened in late February crowds were a bit thick, but the fishing was GOOD. We thank the Tribe for letting us enjoy this amazing fishery!

LATE SEASON FISH, SOUTH NETS OPEN

It’s late in the season and the Lahontan cutties are headed into colder water, but nice fish are still being landed if you are willing to put in the work. Grant, Evan, and Jack went out this weekend after College finals and landed some nice beauties.

South Nets is now open, Washout and Monument are still closed. Get out there while you can- we thank you all for a great season. See you in Fall, enjoy your Summer everyone! We hope to see you at the Green River Utah in the meantime…..🎣

FISHING IS GOOD! THE BREAK DID US WELL…..

After being closed for just over 5 weeks Pyramid Lake is back open and the fishing is GOOD! Lots of 10+ lb. fish are being landed. Yesterday we landed 25 fish between the 2 of us and had at least 3 doubles on– no big boys but great numbers. Double We fished the afternoon from 1pm to 5:45pm at one of the open beaches. Right now North Nets to Shot Dog are the only areas open to fishing. Indicator and streamer fishing are both producing– we had a few inches of snow last night, the lake is blown out on some beaches, but the wind looks right for good fishing! The pre-spawn is starting soon so give us a call to book your guided trip on Pyramid Lake, and let’s get you that 20 pounder! 435-901-1921Red

LAKE CLOSURE UNTIL EARLY APRIL 2017- TRIBAL UPDATE

LATEST UPDATE FROM PYRAMID LAKE PAIUTE TRIBE:

“The Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe has closed the lake to fishing and other recreational activities for public safety and concern. While State Route 446 is closed for several months for repair, beach access roads are also closed to allow for repair due to washouts.

Because of fire damage caused by 2016’s Tule Fire, beach roads have been considered dangerous to use, and it is for the public safety that this is necessary. We are remaining optimistic for a sooner date for re-opening, but there are absolutely no guarantees that this will happen.

A big Thank You! to those crews performing ’round the clock repairs to our roads. Thank you, to the public, for your respect and understanding during this difficult time.”

LAKE CLOSUREALSO, FEBRUARY 2, 2017: The tribe issued a press release stating fishing licenses will not be refunded or prorated. Sales are final.

Road crews are working hard to repair damage, and FEMA has been out to assess lake and road conditions with the Tribe. We understand many repairs and the funding to do so are much needed. The Pyramid Lake Guides team also lives on Tribal land in Sutcliffe on the lake- so we have seen the damage to areas. We were fortunate enough to fish the lake after the flooding the day before the closure.

Thankfully some beaches remain unharmed, most homes were unharmed (a few had some basement flooding), and the road to Reno has remained in tact so we can get supplies from town. The road to Nixon/Tribal Office on State Route 446 is still in bad shape but pilot cars are able to drive Tribal members and school buses through as needed. In Sutcliffe we were without water for a week or so and have been told a temporary fix has been put into place but that a longer term solution will need to be implemented.

In the meantime these massive lahontan cuttys will get big and strong and will be free from distraction during pre-spawn. We anticipate the fishing to be epic the 2017-2018 season! Can’t wait…!

9 INCHES OF SNOW- PYRAMID LAKE NEVADA

Winter conditions in Northern Nevada dropped 9 inches of new snow in the last day, and it’s still snowing! Pyramid Lake is covered in thick powder, and has winds of about 15mph- it is cold! We found good use for this wooden ruler dropped off by Santa this Christmas- it just wasn’t quite to scale for the fish on this lake!

9 inches snow

The massive Lahontan Cutthroats in this lake love to feed near shore during storms, so if you have a truck or AWD and are willing to brave the snowy roads get on out there- send us your pics and we’ll repost on our Instagram @pyramidlakeguides.
